Sync Licensing for Independent Songwriters
How sync licensing actually works for indie songwriters: master vs publishing sync, deal sizes, cue sheets, sync agents, and what to keep in-house.
A sync license lets someone put your composition under picture. A master-use license lets them use a specific recording. Most placements need both.
Found Royalties will never license your sync rights without written approval. If you bring the deal, we administer and collect at 20%. If we pitch and close it, the rate is 35%.
Cue sheets are how PROs pay the performance royalties that follow a placement. Without a cue sheet, the sync fee might be the only money you ever see from that airing.
