Neighboring Rights for Independent Artists
Neighboring rights pay the master owner and performers when a recording is publicly performed. How they work in the US vs internationally, and how to collect.
Neighboring rights are the performer/master equivalent of a songwriter's performance royalty. The US only pays a narrow digital version of them, via SoundExchange. Most other countries pay them for radio, TV, and public venues.
You collect neighboring rights through societies like PPL (UK) and GVL (Germany), usually by joining as a performer or through a neighboring-rights administrator.
