ISWC Codes Explained: The Global ID for Your Songs
An ISWC is the global ID for a composition. Format, how to get one via your PRO, why the MLC needs it, and how indie writers lose theirs.
ISWC identifies a song. ISRC identifies a recording. One song can have many ISRCs and only one ISWC.
You do not invent an ISWC. Your PRO assigns it when the work is registered. Until it exists, matching across societies is guesswork.
We capture the ISRC from the recording, file the work, and record the ISWC when the society returns it. Both identifiers live on your dashboard.
